Many people find solace in different places, I, find total solitude in painting; calming, a reassuring moment, an hour or even a day, painting fills my mind. Emotions that I have hidden within myself suddenly are expressed with the gentlest stroke of a brush, a soft touch of a finger, or the delicate scrape of a knife.
Expressed within each of my paintings, flowing across the empty canvas, is the release of my thoughts, the unspoken words, and my hidden desires. Feelings take over my paint brush and my thoughts are released before me, good, bad or indifferent. Feelings, memories, thoughts, hopes and dreams come alive with each mark, line, colour or stroke. Although I have started many times with pure intentions of an emotional release, current life, past life, future life, takes over and I start again. I appreciate the creation of my actions, but over the years, I have come to understand that the act is far more than the final product. My process in achieving this goal, is an emotional release that I hope both marries my thoughts and emotions upon the once blank canvas. I like to explore new mediums and techniques to evoke new revelations in my psyche that will continue to inspire me to push though and continue to expound on the opportunity that is before me. I believe that art has the ability to change not only your mood, but can also change your prospective of your environment, and can even change your mind.
I have fallen in love with the process of art. It is an outlet for release of emotional stresses and emotional baggage. I hope that you will discover something within my art that will evoke something within you, a happy time, a forgotten memory or even a hopeful future.
After not touching a paint brush for 25 years, on a trip to the Dominican in 2015, a local that I had become friends with, asked me to watch her paint. She wanted to share with me not only the act of painting but the experience that was associated with that act. She encouraged me to paint with her and together we created a piece of work and an experience that I will never forget. It was a moment in time that sparked a passion and sense of inspiration that I will forever be grateful for. It is thanks to Larisa Pushkareua and her insistence, that I left the island with tubes of paint in my hand, and I find myself here today. Once home, I had no choice but to carry on.
I have always loved to create. Art is in my blood. Even as a small child I was always creating, drawing, and building. Over my lifetime, I have explored many different mediums and many different reasons for art over time. It has taken years to realize, but the reasons are now clearer than ever.
